Neon Dwarf Rainbowfish

Neon Dwarf Rainbowfish

Description

To protect our animals and to ensure they get to our customers healthy, we will only ship orders with Nano Fish via UPS Next Day Air.

As one of the more popular members of the Rainbowfish family, the Neon Dwarf Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia praecox) can be found in many home aquariums. The iridescent blue scales that can be observed once the fish reaches adulthood offer a striking contrast to its bright red fins. These colors will “pop” against a densely planted aquarium. Males will offer the brightest colors, especially during their posturing behavior when competing with other males. The beauty of the females is not to be dismissed, however, as they still display a dazzling silver body.

These fish enjoy being kept in large schools as their most intense color will be displayed, and as mentioned above are a very ideal candidate for the planted aquarium. A spacious aquarium will help ensure that subdominant males are not overly harassed by dominant males. It grows to a maximum size of just under 3 inches, and as such, care should be taken if one is to attempt to keep them with smaller invertebrates such as dwarf shrimp, and the fry will likely end up as prey. It has a relatively small mouth for its body size; however, as such, adult dwarf shrimp should be safe. Larger invertebrates such as Vampire, Amano, and Bamboo shrimp are worth candidates for invertebrate tank mates.

Feeding the Neon Dwarf Rainbowfish isn’t too finicky, as it readily accepts the large majority of dried, prepared foods such as flakes, pellets, and granules. For maximum color output, be sure to supplement its diet with nutrient-rich freeze-dried, frozen, and live foods.

These fish are beautiful, and have added great color to my tank. I have ordered many times from Shrimpy Business, and highly recommend them. The fish arrived healthy and very well packaged.

Happy customer!

I ordered 4 Neon Dwarf Rainbow fish and a Vallisineria plant. They shipped within 2 days. The packaging was A1. Upon inspecting the fish, they looked healthy. When I acclimated them to my tank, their color popped, fins looked great, and were really energetic. looking forward to buying more from you.

Beautiful

I ordered 4 of these for my shrimp tank. Unfortunately they all passed away within 2 days of receiving them despite looking great, exhibiting normal behaviors and eating well. Classic delayed shipping damage, which is not a reflection of Shrimpy Business.

Hi Cyanne, I am so sorry to hear about this! Glad the rest of your order is doing great! I have reached out to you via email to process the claim.

Arrived alive but skinny

I ordered 8 of these guys but lost 3 after two days in a stable cycled tank. All the fish I received were super skinny and frail which was unexpected cause all the rainbow fish I usually get are plump and torpedo shaped but other then that the remaining five and doing great and I can’t wait until they get to there full size and color!

Rainbows and other nano fish are healthy and getting big. Love their fish. Wish I had more room.
