Every order is covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. If any shrimp, fish or invertebrate arrives dead, we'll do our best to reimburse you for the lost animals. Just photograph them and start a claim within 24 hours of delivery.
We guarantee the live arrival of eligible livestock when all shipping and delivery requirements are followed. If an eligible animal arrives deceased, please follow the claim requirements for the applicable product below.
In the rare of case of Dead On Arrival (DOA) please:
To submit a claim within 12 hours of the first delivery attempt or pickup.:
•Take clear photos of the invertebrate(s) and/or fish in the unopened bag.
• Take a clear photo of the invertebrate(s) and/or fish after opening the bag and lay it down on a paper towel so the quantity is clear and visible.

For approved claims, customers will receive a store credit or a gift card for the cost of the affected invertebrate(s) and/or fish, or a replacement. Replacement shipping costs are the customer's responsibility. In some cases depending on the quantity and value of order we may reship the order.
Note : Customers are responsible for ensuring they have an appropriate aquarium setup and suitable water conditions before ordering an axolotl.
Snails
Snails may remain inactive for several days after arriving due to transportation stress.
Please allow up to 5 days for a snail to become active after arrival.
If a snail has not moved after 5 days or shows clear signs that it has died or start to smell, contact us with photos and your order number. For approved claims, customers will receive a store credit or a gift card for the cost of the affected snails, or a replacement. Replacement shipping costs are the customer's responsibility.
Aquatic Plants
Aquatic plants may experience temporary stress after shipping. Wilting, melting leaves or dry-looking stems do not necessarily mean that a plant has died.
Please allow the plant time to acclimate and recover after arrival for almost 15 days.
If a plant arrives severely damaged or appears to be dead upon arrival, contact us as soon as possible with the clear photos of the plant as received on info@shrimpybusiness.com
Plant claims will be reviewed individually based on the condition of the plant upon arrival.
DOA Claim Requirements
DOA claims must be submitted within the applicable timeframe listed above.
Claims may not be approved if:
• The required photos or documentation are not provided.
• The animal was left outside or unattended for an extended period.
• The package was delivered to an incorrect address provided by the customer.
• The package was forwarded to another address or the package was routed to a P.O box or mail box.
• A package was held at a carrier location and was not promptly picked up.
• The customer did not follow the applicable shipping or delivery requirements.
Carrier delays or forwarding errors will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Incorrect or Missing Items
If an order arrives with a missing or incorrect item, contact us as soon as possible.

Refunds & Store Credit

About This Species

The Tuxedo Platy (Xiphophorus maculatus) is a colorful, peaceful livebearer known for its distinctive two-tone pattern. Most Tuxedo Platies feature a bright red, orange, yellow, or gold front half contrasted by deep black coloration across the rear body and fins. Exact colors and markings vary between individual fish, making every group unique.
Hardy, active, and easy to feed, this platy is an excellent choice for both beginning and experienced aquarists. It does especially well in planted community aquariums with moderately hard, slightly alkaline water.
About This Fish
The Tuxedo Platy is a selectively bred color variety of the Southern Platy. Its bold black rear body creates the formal “tuxedo” appearance that gives this variety its name.
These fish are active throughout the day and are usually found exploring the middle and upper levels of the aquarium. Platies are social and look best when kept in a small group. If keeping both sexes, maintain approximately one male for every two or three females to reduce persistent chasing.
Aquarium Care
Tuxedo Platies are hardy and adaptable, but they still require a fully cycled aquarium with stable water quality. They prefer moderately hard to hard water with a neutral to alkaline pH.
Gentle to moderate filtration is appropriate. Avoid extremely strong currents, as platies naturally inhabit slower-moving waters. Regular water changes and consistent parameters will help maintain their health and coloration.
A secure aquarium lid is recommended because active platies may occasionally jump.
Tank Setup
Provide open swimming space along with live plants, driftwood, rocks, and other areas where fish can rest or move out of sight. Hardy plants such as Anubias, Java fern, water sprite, and Vallisneria work well.
Dense plants or floating cover are especially useful when fry are present. Tuxedo Platies are plant-safe, although they may nibble on soft algae and decaying plant material.
A 15-gallon aquarium can house a small group, but a 20-gallon or larger aquarium provides more swimming room and makes population management easier.
Diet
Tuxedo Platies are omnivores and readily accept most appropriately sized aquarium foods. Offer a quality flake or small pellet as the staple diet, supplemented with foods such as frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and spirulina-based foods.
A varied diet containing both plant and animal matter helps support strong coloration, healthy growth, and successful breeding. Feed small portions once or twice daily and avoid overfeeding.
Tankmates
This platy is peaceful and works well with other calm community fish that enjoy similar water conditions. Suitable tankmates may include guppies, mollies, peaceful tetras suited to harder water, danios, rasboras, Corydoras, and other platies.
Avoid large predatory fish, aggressive species, and persistent fin nippers. Adult dwarf shrimp may coexist with platies, but newborn shrimp and other tiny invertebrates may be eaten.
Tuxedo Platies can interbreed with other platy varieties and may also hybridize with closely related swordtails. Keep this in mind if maintaining pure breeding lines.
Breeding Notes
Tuxedo Platies are livebearers and breed readily in home aquariums. Females give birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs, often producing a new brood approximately every four to six weeks.
Adults may eat newborn fry. Provide dense plants, moss, or separate nursery space if you want more young to survive. Females can store sperm and may continue producing broods for several months after being separated from males.
Because they reproduce quickly, it is important to have a plan for managing or rehoming excess fry.
