Gertrude Spotted Blue Eye Rainbowfish (Pseudomugil gertrudae) are unique and colorful fish with vibrant blue eyes, stunning spotted patterns. With a peaceful demeanor and easy care, it's perfect for both beginner and experienced fish enthusiasts.

We recommend keeping these guys in groups of 5 or more to achieve the best coloration for both males and females.

These fish are adult shrimp-safe, however, we recommend having sufficient plants or hiding spots for aquariums with both Spotted Blue Eye Rainbowfish and freshwater shrimp. 

Spotted Blue Eye Rainbowfish are pretty easy to care as long as they are introduced to a mature, cycled tank. They can acclimate to a wide range of parameters.  The following are our water parameters we keep them at:

We feed them a mix of live baby brine shrimp, frozen daphnia and high-quality flake food.

Good fish to watch

These fish are curious, sweet, and very interested in their environment, generally fun and interesting to watch. They all arrived alive. Several days later they are still much more gray than yellow.

The Rainbowfish were packaged 2x2 and the second pair did not make it. I took pictures and emailed as instructed and got a reply back within a handful of hours with options. Thoroughly impressed!
The survivors were added to my tank and I was initially a bit worried as they seemed very thin even for juveniles. The female acclimated quickly and made an effort to eat frozen daphnia, the frozen brine shrimp were too big. The male had a much harder time and I had to powder some flakes which he eventually took from the water surface.
Overall very happy with the fish, just a bit sad on the ones that didn't make it because their coloring was even better than the ones that survived, even with the stress of travel.
