One of the most popular nano fish in the aquarium hobby, the Chili Rasbora (Boraras brigittae), is well-known and beloved for its peaceful disposition, striking color pattern, and petite size. Also known as the Mosquito Rasbora, the bright ruby red coloration of these fish provides a striking contrast when kept in a planted aquarium.
Given its small size and schooling behaviors, housing a large number of these fish together creates a mesmerizing display of colors when they swim cohesively around the tank. For them to show off their deep red coloration, we recommend keeping these guys in groups of 10 or more for them to feel safe in a large school.
They occupy the upper and middle sections of the aquarium, occasionally venturing to the bottom areas, particularly when feeling shy or spooked.
Due to their small size (growing no larger than 0.75”) and peaceful nature, they are readily kept with other peaceful fish of all sizes and invertebrates such as shrimp, snails, and crabs as well.
The Chili Rasbora can be finicky with water conditions and parameters, particularly when initially introduced to a new aquarium. As such, careful acclimation procedures are recommended. They require clean, high-quality water in order to display optimal coloration. The waters from which they originate are slow-flowing and acidic, with high tannin levels and leaf litter. Dark substrate in their tank will really help make their colors pop!
Chili Rasboras are not particularly picky eaters, and will thrive and remain very colorful on prepared foods, whether they be dried or alive. Many fish keepers have great success with flake, pellet, and other dry goods. However, they won’t deny some good live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, or blood/tubifex worms. Watching a school of these fish chase down their prey is a sight to behold!
Our Tank Water Parameters
The following are our water parameters we keep them at:
- PH: 7.2 to 7.5
- GH: 7 to 8
- KH: 3 to 4
- TDS: 180 to 250
- Temp: 72 to 75
Ordered 10 and 9 are left since about a week. I’m happy the rest are acclimating and are comfortable with 1 honey gourami and 5 Neo shrimp. In a planted tank with real organic substrate and dragonstone in my 10 gallon.
it has been five days since I received my chili Rasboras, emerald green Rasboras and Pygmy Corydora . Everyone came in healthy and feisty not one death! They are adorable and coloring up so well, thank you, Shrimpybusiness!

I ordered 12 and three were DOA. No problem, filed a claim and am confident SB will handle that appropriately. The other nine went into my peaceful tank, but I hardly ever find any. They are very, very small. They make the CPDs I also bought look like giants. I’m hopeful in a month or two they will grow enough that I can determine if all nine made it or if they were misinterpreted as food by my honey gouramis.
Im definitely getting more. They stand out so much in my tank. So worth it!

Everything was packaged well and fish were all healthy and alive. the shipping was fast but ups did mess up and delayed the delivery by one day but that is a ups problem even though that happened the fish all survived. Very happy with my purchase.
ALL 12 healthy!! I knew from my several previous purchases that SB sends true babies so, I had my nursery play pen set up for them in the community aquarium. There, I will let them grow a little bigger before I release them. I also, upon release, put a piece of netting across the weir to prevent them from getting swept into the filter system, until they mature & can navigate the flow of the tank. GREAT SERVICE SB!!
All 24 of these fish arrived alive! I was so surprised, usually w such tiny sensitive fish, one or two DOA is normal no matter how well packed and how quickly they get delivered. But these guys know what they're doing, get healthy stock, I know they have a quarantine process also. I love my experience every time I order from these guys, and my new chilis are rapidly recovering their colors after shipping stress. My 36 chilis came in 3 to a bag - all alive! These guys look like tiny jouveniles - just old enough to ship. I matched the listed parameters to my quarantine tank to give then a good start - its day 3 and they are all doing GREAT! No losses, no issues. Now just working to get them growing and coloring up.
They come so healthy and safe
I ordered 6 fish, and they all arrived alive within 24 hours of being shipped. One fish died the second day I had them, but it showed no signs of disease so I think it was just a less resilient individual. The others seem to be doing well after 4 days in my aquarium, all are active and look healthy.

They came in super tiny and clear. I was under the impression that they’d be bigger because of the picture. I ordered 6 and 3 passed. 1 in shipping and 2 a few hours later. After drip acclamation (30min) they were swimming upside down and passed over night

Two came DOA, three more looked like they were having trouble swimming and died in the first 24 hrs. 5 left. I did the drip acclimation and took very good care of them. Other 5 look fine so far, but i had to order more so the remaining 5 feel safe in a shoal.
