With shiny, iridescent blues and glowing fiery reds, the Blue Neon Rasbora Tetra is a rather rare, attractive nano fish that is extremely eye-catching. These colorful beauties originate from acidic swamps and shallow creeks in Borneo and Sumatra, with slightly warmer and softer water. The waters from which they originate have high tannin levels and leaf litter. They enjoy having open areas of water to swim in, as is found in their natural habitats. Keeping them in groups of 6 or more will encourage them to display their natural schooling behaviors.

Like many rasboras, their growth doesn’t exceed 1” in length, with both genders being similar in length, while males are slightly slimmer and more brightly colored. Similar to other rasboras and danios, their small stature and peaceful nature, they are readily kept with other peaceful fish of all sizes and invertebrates such as shrimpsnails, and crabs as well.

Spawning Blue Neon Rasboras has proven difficult for many, with high-quality water and stable water parameters being a must. Lower pH and simulating a blackwater habitat have proven to offer more success with breeding. Offering hiding places with plants and other aquarium hardscaping will ensure an increased likelihood of fry survival.

Blue Neon Rasboras can be fed prepared fish foods such as fish flakes or pellets/tablets, but will readily accept small live foods and frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, & tubifex worms. If attempting to breed these fish, heavy emphasis should be placed on feeding live foods to increase the success rates of spawning.
