About This Species

To protect our animals and to ensure they get to our customers healthy, we will only ship orders with Nano Fish via UPS Next Day Air.

The Red Phantom Tetra (Hyphessobrycon sweglesi) is a peaceful and active freshwater fish popular in the aquarium hobby. Native to the Orinoco River drainage basin in South America, this species is known for its beautiful reddish-orange iridescent body and distinctive black markings.

Like most Tetras, we recommend keeping these guys in groups of 5 or more for them to feel safe in a large school. They will look especially stunning in a planted tank.

Red Phantom Tetra Tetras are pretty easy to care as long as they are introduced to a mature, cycled tank. They can acclimate to a wide range of parameters.  The following are our water parameters we keep them at:

Our Tank Water Parameters

PH: 7.2 to 7.5
GH: 7 to 8
KH: 3 to 4
TDS: 180 to 250
Temp: 72 to 75

We feed them a mix of live baby brine shrimp, frozen daphnia and high-quality flake food.

  • 5 stars: 3 (75%)
  • 4 stars: 1 (25%)
  • 3 stars: 0 (0%)
  • 2 stars: 0 (0%)
  • 1 star: 0 (0%)

Swim In The Present

The lively Tetras were welcomed to the tank and established themselves wonderful. After 48 hours their colors became alive as the Red Phantom Tetras' nerves settled. They miss the friends they had at the Shrimpy Buisness HQ. Often, I can see them reflecting on past fun times they had. I encourage them to swim in the present and enjoy life one day at a time, they never know when one of their friends will die, release ammonia in the tank, and kill everything and everyone they live with.

Hi William, we’re delighted to hear your Red Phantom Tetras have settled into their new home and that their beautiful colors are shining through! We hope they continue to thrive and bring plenty of joy to your aquarium.

Thank you for choosing Shrimpy Business!
